VHDs available for testing Internet Explorer compatibility

Microsoft is providing four VHDs for download so users and developers can test the compatibility of various versions of Internet Explorer with their web sites and web applications.

The most exciting VHD is IE 8 beta 2 running on Windows XP SP3.  Other versions include Windows XP SP3 with IE6 VHD file, Windows XP SP2 with IE7 VHD file, and a Vista Image with IE7 VHD file.

The Vista image expires in January 2009, while no expiration date is listed for the XP images.

Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Vista; Windows XP

You will need a minimum of 1.5 Gig hard drive space free to expand the VHD file.

You can download the latest version of Virtual PC at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx.

If you prefer to use VMware rather than Virtual PC, a basic VHD importer is built into VMware Workstation and the free VMware Player. You can open your VHD file in the VMware product and it will be converted automatically.
